Bird Flu

So far the virus seems able to be passed to people by birds but not easily from one human to another. But if, as experts fear, it mutates into an easily transmittable human form, there are predictions of a massive flu pandemic, which could kill hundreds of thousands across the world.

So what is the UK doing to protect its population? According to BBC news: once the virus has mutated into a form easily transmitted between humans, drug companies will set to work developing a vaccine. The government says it will buy 120 million doses of it - enough to treat the whole UK population.

But a vaccine will only be able to be formulated once the pandemic has begun, we are told, and will take up to six months to prepare.

Natural Help?

So what can we do for ourselves? Well, I will be taking a leaf out of my aromatherpist's book and using preventative measures such as his anti-viral blends that have proved useful to me in the past when other viral infections such as colds and flu that affect the respiratory passages have been rife in the area!

When coughs, colds and flu are doing the rounds he suggests:

  1. Swiping a Roller Ball of Aromatherapy Blend 11 under the nose several times a day to kill bugs at the point of entry.

  2. Using an anti-viral hand lotion of Blend 11 to protect yourself from picking up the bugs by touch. (shaking hands etc.)

  3. Adding a few drops of Blend 11 to washing up liquid, to the hand-wash in the bathroom etc.

  4. A few drops of Blend 11 can also be used in a steam inhaler or in a room burner to kill germs.

  5. If you've been unlucky and respiratory viruses attack Blend 41 may be found to help prevent the severity when applied immediately in a lotion to rub in your neck, chest and stomach.
