Clare Singleton is organising a charity event to raise money for MacMillian Cancer/ Chernobyl Child Lifeline - she needs help from therapists, please read on:

"I have done this before at the stour centre a couple of times but it isn't always ideal Parking, noise etc!!. Anyway I have managed to get a lovely hall FREE of charge St Teresas Church Hall in town.

 The aim will be to raise £1000 for the above charities. So it is not to much hard work I am hoping to get 16 Therapist who can offer various treatments. Looking at starting 4pm ish and finishing 6 pm ish on FRIDAY 28TH MAY 2010.

 I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can do this with your help. I am confident that I will be able to get the clients, just need YOU!!

 £10.00 per treatment for 20mins so we only need to do 6 ish clients times 16 = our target. ( Hopefully clients would donate more!!)

 I will do a raffle aswell.

I would be really grateful is you can do this/ recommend/ give me the numbers of other therapist who would like to help."

Pamper Evening and Quiz night Supper

Ashford's Reiki Group gave their services to raise awareness and funding for the Chernobyl Childrens Lifeline in 2009, by collecting donations in exchange for treatments at The Kennington Summer Fayre in Ashford Kent on 20th June 2009. The fayre (pictures below) was held on the green in kennington where the group offered Reiki and other complementary and alternative treatments during the afternoon.

Funds raised on the day are given to the charity that brings disadvantaged child victims of the Chernobyl disaster to Kent for a recuperative break during the summer.

Reiki Awareness Week in 2008 was held from 8 - 14 June. Ashford's Reiki Share Group offered their services to not only raise awareness of Reki, but also raise money for a very worthy cause: Chernobyl'Children's Lifeline.

Child victims of the fallout from the Chernobyl disaster back in 1986, are amongst the 3.5 million living in poverty and sickness in Belarus. When the radiation levels in the dust rise in summer it is important for as many of these children as possible to get away from the contaminated farmland and food to build up their immune systems in a cleaner environment.

Local families in Ashford & Romney Marsh have been volunteering as hosts for some of these children over past years and it is the aim of Sarah, the area co-ordinator of 'The Chernobyl Children's Lifeline' to bring as many children across for a break as possible.

By making a donation of £10 to this worthy charity people received a Voucher for a Reiki treatment given by a member of Ashford's Reiki Group on Wednesday evening 25th June at The Friend's Meeting House in Ashford town.

Past Times

In previous years the Reiki Support Group has tried to to raise awareness of this gentle healing therapy among the public, who may otherwise, not have had the opportunity to discover the benefits of Reiki in their everyday lives.

Reiki works on the physical, mental and emotional levels and brings about a sense of calm and deep relaxation, which in turn promotes self-healing in the 'whole' person. As with most holistic therapies, Reiki is based on the free-flow of energy but unlike some other therapies has no contra-indications for use.

Studies have shown that hospital patients who receive Reiki often make a far speedier recovery than those who have not. Reiki is complementary to alopathic treatment and can only ever work for the greatest good of the person.

Ashford's Reiki Group has held past evenings where people have come along to experience Free Reiki treatments during Reiki Awareness Week. Anyone wanting to learn more about Reiki came along to the Reiki Support Group Meeting and experienced for themselves the deep feelings of relaxation and wellbeing generated by this gentle non-invasive therapy. We had a very good turnout on the night and everyone benefited from the experience.

 Reiki Awareness Week 2005

After 2 days at Ottakar's Bookshop in Ashford, Kent, giving free "taster" treatments for Reiki Awareness Week, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of interest in this gentle healing therapy from Japan - I even worked longer than planned on both days because of demand.

The staff I saw there were keen to learn more and those who managed to get a taster all seemed very relaxed at the end of their sessions.

I was asked about giving Reiki to cats and although I know it is a good treatment for animals I hadn't had the opportunity until now to practice it on them until now. The cat was very receptive and seemed to know he had to drink plenty of water afterwards, making a dash for his water bowl as sooon as treatment ended!

I noticed the energy prickling in my hands just as soon as I sat down and chatted with each person approaching me in the shop before I treated them. Those who stopped by seemed genuinely interested in the therapy and keen to learn more which was good.

One of the shop's customers with a neck problem said I had found the right spot as soon as I worked on her neck. Another felt as though something were "digging" inside of his back to clear his problem as I gently lay my hands on the offending spot. Others were interested in taking training courses and being able to treat themselves and others.

The shop and I were both delighted with the success of the event and I look forward to being able to 'join forces' with them again sometime later in the year!
