Fertility and Reflexology Reflexology can be of great benefit to people suffering from fertility problems. Feedback from reflexologists has proved positive over the years and I have been fortunate in having treated many couples who have finally realised their dreams of becoming parents. |

As an experienced reflexologist and Practitioner Member of The Association of Reflexologists, I have a special interest in fertility problems and have had some very rewarding success stories from my own clients. For those who are not already familiar with this therapy, Reflexology works on the principle that reflex points found on the feet (and hands) directly reflect certain organs and systems in the body. By stimulating specific reflex points on the feet it is thought possible to stimulate the corresponding parts on the body itself.
The roots of Reflexology are discovered in many ancient cultures - from Traditional Chinese Medicine to the Ancient Egyptians, but its revival in the West dates back to an American physician, Dr William Fitzgerald (1872 - 1942). Dr Fitzgerald discovered that pressure on certain points on feet and hands produced localised anaesthesia to corresponding body parts in what he called certain 'zones' of the body.
A full reflexology session will work to balance the whole of the body's organs and systems - in particular the endocrine system for hormonal balance. By treating the whole person: mind, body and spirit it can be a tremendously relaxing experience, which in itself will help to drive away the adverse effects of stress.
Contra-indications
There are no clear-cut contraindications regarding treatment, and reflexology is not known to have any detrimental or negative effect on anyone who is undergoing a course of infertility treatment with drugs such as clomiphene (used to control the hormone cycle and stimulate ovulation).
A good reflexologist will, of course, take the normal check on medical history and discuss any issues raised with the client before starting the treatment.
Stress
Fertility problems can be very stressful for the client and a course of reflexology can also provide the very relaxation they need to help return their body to its natural balance. It is often of great help to the man too in getting his own body back into a state of harmony and balance in preparing for fatherhood.
My Experience
I have a special interest in fertility but make no claims of success - obviously the success of conceiving will depend on the individual condition. But I am happy to say that over recent years many people coming to me with problems of this kind have been successful in having their dreams of motherhood fulfilled My baby-board in the treatment room is now overflowing with photos!
